Question 1

Who is behind Latch Wise?

Accepted Answer

Latch Wise is led by Naomi Alexis, an IBCLC-certified lactation consultant, LCANZ member, and midwife with more than 15 years of experience supporting families through the early days of parenthood. Naomi is a registered nurse and midwife with lived experience of breastfeeding challenges.

Question 2

Is breastfeeding supposed to hurt?

Accepted Answer

Some initial tenderness can be normal, but persistent pain usually means the latch needs adjustment. Support and small changes often make feeding comfortable again. A lactation consultation with Latch Wise can help identify and resolve the cause.

Question 3

How do I know if my baby is getting enough milk?

Accepted Answer

Signs include frequent swallowing during feeds, steady weight gain, and regular wet nappies. Every baby is unique. A Latch Wise consultation includes a full feeding and growth assessment to give you confidence your baby is thriving.

Question 4

Can I combine breastfeeding and bottle-feeding?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Many families choose mixed feeding. Latch Wise can create a personalised plan that protects milk supply and supports your feeding goals.

Question 5

What happens during a first lactation consultation?

Accepted Answer

Your initial consultation is 90 minutes. This allows time for a thorough feeding assessment, discussion of your goals and challenges, hands-on guidance, and creation of a tailored feeding plan. You will also receive a follow-up phone call within the week to review progress and address any concerns.

Question 6

Do you offer in-home and online lactation consultations?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Latch Wise offers both in-home consultations across the Perth metro area and Telehealth appointments for families anywhere in Australia.

Question 7

How do I book a lactation consultation?

Accepted Answer

Contact Latch Wise directly by phone on 0414 126 196 or by email at naomi@latchwise.com.au to arrange a consultation time. Visit the Contact Us page at latchwise.com.au/contact for all contact options.

Question 8

Is online lactation support effective?

Accepted Answer

Yes. With high-quality video and guided observation, Telehealth allows assessment of positioning, attachment, and feeding cues effectively. A secure video link is sent prior to the appointment.

Question 9

Is lactation consultation covered by Medicare or private health insurance?

Accepted Answer

Medicare rebates are not currently available for private lactation consultants. However, some private health insurers offer partial rebates for IBCLC lactation consultations. Check with your provider for details.
