About Latch Wise
Who is behind Latch Wise?
Latch Wise is led by Naomi Alexis – an IBCLC-certified lactation consultant, LCANZ member, and midwife with more than 15 years of experience supporting families through the early days of parenthood. Naomi is a mother with lived experience of breastfeeding challenges. Naomi has worked across Australia and overseas, including time in the Democratic Republic of Congo with HEAL Africa, an experience that deepened her respect for the strength of mothers and the beauty of new beginnings.
Breastfeeding & Infant Feeding
Is breastfeeding supposed to hurt?
Some initial tenderness can be normal, but persistent pain usually means the latch needs adjustment. Support and small changes often make feeding comfortable again.
How do I know if my baby is getting enough milk?
Signs include frequent swallowing during feeds, steady weight gain, and regular wet nappies. Every baby is unique – your consultation includes a full feeding and growth assessment.
Can I combine breastfeeding and bottle-feeding?
Yes. Many families choose mixed feeding. We can create a personalised plan that protects supply and supports your feeding goals.
What if breastfeeding doesn’t work out?
Feeding is about nourishment, connection, and confidence - not perfection. Whether you breastfeed, express, or use formula, you deserve support that meets your family’s needs.
Consultations
What happens during a first consultation?
Your initial consultation is 90 minutes. This allows time for a thorough feeding assessment, discussion of your goals and challenges, hands-on guidance, and creation of a tailored feeding plan. You’ll also receive a follow-up phone call within the week to review progress and address any concerns.
What if I have questions after my appointment?
You’re welcome to contact us by phone, text or email within the first week after your consultation for any questions or reassurance. We understand it can be a lot to take in - we’re here to help.
Do you offer in-home and online appointments?
Yes. Latch Wise offers both in-home consultations across Perth and Telehealth appointments for families anywhere in Australia.
How do I book?
Bookings are made securely online through our Halaxy portal or by contacting us directly.
Telehealth & Online Care
Is online lactation support effective?
Yes. With high-quality video and guided observation, Telehealth allows Naomi to assess positioning, attachment, and feeding cues effectively. We will send you a secure link to join at the time of the Telehealth appointment.
What technology do I need?
A smartphone, tablet, or laptop with camera and a stable internet connection.
General Information
Do you share my information with anyone else?
Only with your consent, or when required by law (e.g., for health reporting). Otherwise, all consultations remain confidential.
Are you covered by Medicare or private health?
Medicare rebates aren’t available for private lactation consultations. Many private health funds offer rebates for consultations with an IBCLC when provided by an AHPRA-registered clinician. Your rebate will depend on your individual level of cover so you will need to check with your insurer. If you’d like the relevant item details to check with your insurer, feel free to reach out and we’ll guide you through it.
What areas do you service for in-home visits?
Latch Wise provides in-home consultations in Perth and surrounding suburbs. Please confirm your location when booking.
Policies & Conditions
What is your cancellation policy?
If you can’t attend, please let us know as soon as possible.

Notification must be received by 8 a.m. on the day of your appointment or a $50 fee may be incurred.

Refunds or rescheduling are available for cancellations made more than 24 hours in advance.
What is your privacy policy?
Latch Wise complies with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). Personal and health information is collected only for providing care, billing, and communication.
